Back with fury

With more and more time appearing in my life, FFXI just had to find a way to creep back in. That being, I have to find a way to justify my time online by keeping up with this blog.
Over the summer I made the mistake of purchasing not one, but two of the amazing mini-expansions. Square really seems to have dug itself into a hole with the concept of these episodes. I can only guess that they’ve had all three of these made since the beginning of the year and are just releasing them once enough time has passed. Problem is--the expansions are junk. So far they have been extremely short, mostly solo-able, and plagued with fetch quests on top of lame requirements for missions (like the necessity of Quicksand Caves’ map). Anyway, I got a pretty sweet body piece from the first expansion and am stuck collecting fragments in Quicksand Caves for the second.

Other than that, I leveled my Corsair up to 44 and am loving it more now than ever. Actually having to pay attention to everything in a party such as roll timers, status effects that need Quick Draw shots stuck on em, links to be slept, TP to be expended, and idiots to be yelled at for running in the way of my Evoker’s Roll really enhances the experience more than /autoattack, /ws “Penta Thrust” <t>, rinse, repeat.
No new mission news this week, but as always, if any LS on Siren is looking for members and just wanna have some fun and get some missions done, send me a /tell.

Sky Access? For Me!?

Yes, it's true.  Sky access is mine.  I logged on to FFXI Sunday night looking for something to do and saw some wonderful people from the "Canadian" Linkshell shouting to complete Headstone Pilgrimage through sky.  We met up in Whitegate and set out for the four NMs we needed to fell.  Obtaining the Lightning Fragment in Qufim went smooth and the Light Fragment in The Sanctuary of Zi'tai was cake, Cape Teriggan wasn't too much of a hassle(just keep sneak/invis on and you're fine), but the Fire Fragment officially sucked.  Our party got split up from the beginning and most of our members were spread throughout the zone.  The Cauldron just isn't designed to be easily navigable.  It could definitely be seen as a way to weed out weaker players from the more advanced---which unfortunately described us the other night.  Without realizing it, we arrived at the zone without the necessary Ice Clusters to muffle the blazing fire spouts which meant that we had to drop our snk/invis and fight the bombs off while we waited for the fire to subdue.  The fire spouts and lack of leadership were just a couple of the problems we faced that probably could have been remedied with a little more planning.  Once we finally got through the Cauldron, the Opo-opo fight was simple.

After we collected all the fragments and got everyone to the lost temple in Quicksand Caves, we attempted to enter the BC....but apparently one of our members never grabbed the fire fragment after the Opo-opo fight >.<  So with 3 of our member in the BC and one left out, we attempted to smash our way through it...and lost.  I know it sounds bad, but we had only sacrificed 1-2 hours at this time so we just counted it as a trial and were all up for giving it another go.  The guy without the fragment got upset and logged for the night.  So with just the three of us left in the party, we searched everyone's linkshells and friends lists for more people to help.  We luckily got a RDM to come raise us and help us out for the rest of the night.

  • blah
  • blah
  • cutscene
  • walk half of Vana'diel
  • blah
  • fight in Delkfutt's Tower
  • run to the opposite side of Vana'diel and back
  • talk to a Mithra in Rabao
  • fight a pot
  • give the Mithra a Key Item
  • run to Hall of the Gods

and BAM!

I know, it's pretty, right?

...too bad my linkshell doesn't really do anything in sky anymore ;_;  but it's whatever.  If anything changes, you can bet I'll be ready.

Other than getting to sky, Killaz smashed through Shiva for Xthedevil

and attempted to take down Gurfurlur the Menacing in Halvung, but about 1/3 of our people bailed on the way there and we disbanded not too far from the battle chamber.  This has been a trend in Killaz lately: Mili will get everyone excited about some event, everyone will gather and head out, Mili will bail, and one by one people start leaving.  I'm not saying it's Militia's fault, but everyone seems to follow his lead and without him present, no one takes command and people feel no obligation to stay and make sure the job gets done.  Mili's done a ton for Killaz recently and revived it from near death, it's up to us to keep it going.

Getting Back Into The Game

Wow, classes take up a ton of time.  Sorry I haven't really been posting (not like anyone's reading anyway ;) ) classes have started up and between homework and trying to develop a social life, I really have had no time for FFXI.  However, things are starting to cool down here and Vana'diel has slowly found its way back into my life.

I've decided that I really want a job that is actually useful for endgame events/HNM, should I ever join a shell.  Since I've had most of my experience with melee jobs, it's looking like Paladin is where I'm headed for now.  I had leveled PLD up to 19 earlier and decided that it wasn't for me, but it's a very poor idea to base a job off your experience in the Dunes.

Wow, level sync makes parties so much better.  I had heard some discussions on BG and KI and gotten mixed feelings about the system, but when actually used in parties, it totally works.  The xp bonus you get from having everyone in the party at the same level easily offsets any slowdown due to poor stats on gear.  In a pretty normally diverse party in Kazaam, we were averaging ~7-8k per hour.  Not too bad for the Jungles fighting mandies.

Other than leveling PLD, I've been trying to stay on top of the Wings storyline.  Even though I was completely upset by the lack of new missions with the update, the added quests and NMs in Beastman strongholds are a great addition.  Skystrider + Supremacy Earring = pimpy DRG.  Even though it will probably never happen for me, it's nice to have a plan should my circumstances change---by the way, if anyone is putting together a static for CoP, ZM, or anything in ToAU on Siren, send me a tell or message; I'm very interested :P.

Posting from Windows Live

Just really testing out this program, but I'm hoping to start adding more info soon.  Here's some pictures to hold you over for now.

Bah, time to write something

I've been putting off entering anything till I had something interesting to write.  Filling this page with thought provoking ideas about Vana'diel is something that I've always wanted to do, however that's not the case for today.  The task for today is much simpler-let's just get everyone on the same page for now.  I am a level 75 Dragoon who has some very sucky gear for his level and no merits.  After conversing with my brother Diamondweapon today, I realised that while getting my first job to 75 was a great accomplishment, I really need to buckle down and get something else done.  This really shouldn't be a problem since I still have a multitude of missions and quests to complete.  Currently, I'm only a few missions into any of the expansion storylines and am still sitting on Sandy's Rank 6, the problem is where to begin.  When I was leveling Dragoon I promised myself that I would keep working on it till I was comfortable with my equipment for it.  Right now, my Dragoon is very incomplete.

Weapon - Thalassocrat
Sub - Mythril Grip +1
Head - Wyvern Helm
Neck - Chivalrous Chain
Ear 1 - Fowling Earring
Ear 2 - Coral Earring
Body - Narasimha's Vest
Hands - Drachen Finger Gauntlets
Ring 1 - Ecphoria Ring
Ring 2  - Venerer Ring
Back - Psilos Mantle
Waist - Warwolf Belt
Legs - Barone Cosciales
Feet - Tabin Boots +1

I know right?  Major suckage.  But that's number 2 on my list of things to remedy my current situation.  So this is how my FFXI days will play out for a while:  1 - Get some moneyz   2 - Purchase better gear for DRG  3 - Find a new Linkshell to do events with since mine recently died.

Anyway, on my quest for money today, I discovered the hidden job ability for DRG- Pimpage:

Duration - Till user becomes KO'd  Recast Timer: Nevar!

When I zoned into Giddeus I left to go check my playlist of music playing in the background only to return to find a flock of naked Mithra surrounding me.  It was a good day.

More actual FFXI info to come-for now, sleep.

-night...-_- zzzzz

...another FFXI livejournal

Howdy people.  Yes, I am starting another ffxi livejournal, however, this one promises to be different.  You see, I am both a horrible writer and a lazy ffxi player.  How lazy? Well, just to give you an idea, it took me almost exactly 2 years to get a single job to 75 o.O.
